Hello All,

My friend Steve Blum will be coming to Austin on January 20 to play a few gigs, give a master class, teach lessons, and check out the scene. He has played with many great musicians like Peggy Lee, Ira Sullivan, David Schnitter, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Louis Bellson, "Patato" Valdes, Cecil McBee, etc. and won praise from guitar greats like Lennie Breau, Eddie Diehl, and Mundell Lowe. Pat Harris on bass and Masumi Jones on drums will join Steve for the performances on Thursday and Friday evening as well as the master class on Saturday afternoon. These will mostly be guitar trio performances, but I will probably join the band for a few tunes as well.

Musicians (not just guitarists) of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to take part in the master class on Saturday afternoon. Steve will discuss his life in jazz, specific musical techniques such as reharmonization and voicing, answer questions, and give direct feedback to participants who wish to perform with the rhythm section. The trio will also perform selections throughout the class. I can provide a full outline upon request.

Tickets to the Friday evening concert and Saturday afternoon workshop will be $10 for adults and $5 for students at the door, but I am offering a $2 discount on each ticket if you purchase them in advance. Please respond to this email (or send me a new one) requesting tickets and I will respond with instructions for advance purchase.

Steve is also be available to teaching private lessons, give small group instruction, or master classes during the following week. If you are interested in taking lessons or setting up a workshop for you students, please send me an email and we can talk further.

I would also like to take a moment to express my gratitude to both Blackerby Violin Shop and Albertson School of Music for allowing me to use their beautiful facilities for this event.  Please consider coming out to support live jazz in Austin and these wonderful musicians. This will hopefully be the first of many attempts to bring accomplished musicians from other parts of the country to perform in Austin.

As always, please let me know if you no longer want to receive updates from me by replying to this email with "UNSUBSCRIBE" in the subject field.

Thank you.
